Day 7: Owers Corner – Sogeri
Continue to the base of Imita Ridge at Imita Creek.
Steep climb up Imita Ridge to Imita Gap. This was to be the last of line of defence for the protection of Port Moresby. The Australians were ordered to hold at all costs and fight to the death if necessary. After the Japanese withdrawal from Ioribaiwa Ridge the Australian advance to recapture Kokoda began here.
Trek down to the abandoned village of Uberi. Cross the Goldie River and climb to Ower’s Corner. A 25-pound Adventure KokodaArtillery gun has been relocated to this site. They were used to fire over the Australian position on Imita Ridge to the Japanese position on Ioribaiwa.
