Port Moresby
On Arrival
The safest way to get from the airport to your hotel is with your Adventure Kokoda representative who will be waiting at the door after you clear customs. He will be wearing a red Adventure Kokoda cap and shirt and will marshall all trekkers together inside the terminal. Trekkers should not leave the confines of the air terminal until they have reported to the Adventure Kokoda representative.
If you are not part of an organised tour group the best way to ensure you get to your hotel is to report to each of the hotel representatives after you have cleared customs inside the terminal. They will then take you to their hotel mini-bus and take you to your hotel.
Rental Cars
Avis, Hertz, Budget and Thrifty rental car agencies are located inside the air terminal. It is advisable to make rental car arrangements before you leave Australia.
Taxis
There are plenty of taxis in Port Moresby but most would not pass a roadworthy check in Australia. You need to ensure you negotiate the price of your fare before you depart otherwise you might be in for a surprise.
PMV
These are 'Private Motor Vehicles' and are the backbone of the Port Moresby transport system. You need to exercise care if travelling by PMV however you will find both the drivers and the passengers very helpful if you need advice on your destination.
PMVs run set routes and have route numbers (and sometimes the actual destination) painted on the front of the bus.
