Niugini Trek Guides
Our Niugini Trek Guides are from the Koiari and Orokaiva people who live in the villages along the trail. We have develoloped a close association with them over the years. They are friendly, strong and loyal. They take great pride in assisting you to trek safely across the Owen Stanley Ranges. We pay the top rate of pay as recommended by the Kokoda Track Authority. In addition to this we are the only trekking company that provides them with a trek uniform and a sleeping bag and mat for each guide and carrier. We also provide them with fresh meals and payment to return to their villages at the end of their trek.
Personal Niugini Carriers
Personal Carriers (grandsons of the legendary 'fuzzy-wuzzy angels') are available to carry your backpack for you. This is a recommended option if you are not an experienced trekker. The cost for a personal PNG carrier for the duration of the 9-day 39th Battalion trek is $650 and for the 10 day Kokoda Campaign Trek (which includes all battlefields, fire support bases and logistic support areas) is $690.
